Product description

Latin name :  Opuntia  microdasys albispina

A few words:   Opuntia species are generally medium-sized, flattened and cacti with moderate growth rate. On their surface, the thorns emerge in clusters, which in most species of the family are tiny and look harmless, but when you touch them, they adhere to the skin and create itching.

Light: They prefer sunny places throughout the day so it is good to place them outdoors.

Water : Cacti need very good drainage and therefore it is good to use a special substrate for cacti during transplanting. Watering should be repeated every time the substrate dries. We usually water very well and then wait for it to dry.

Temperature:  In general, most cacti can withstand temperatures of even single digits. Several times the low temperatures are responsible for a rich spring flowering as they contribute to the differentiation of the buds from sprouting to flowering. There are clearly exceptions that require protection from the low temperatures of winter. In these cases it is advisable to use antifreeze cloth or take them to sheltered places when possible. In Opuntia species the temperature should not fall below 10 ° C so it is good in the winter months if it is not possible to placed indoors, protected from the cold

Fertilization : We usually use liquid water-soluble fertilizer for cacti, from the beginning of January until the autumn. Once a month is generally enough.

Last tip: Cacti usually suffer from rot due to excessive watering, especially in autumn and winter. So pay attention to the substrate we use and the frequency of watering. We must always adapt to the prevailing conditions.
